I originally purchased my Olympus Pen E-PL2 in a kit with the variable 14-42 mm lens. Not being able to use that lens anymore, and not being overjoyed with it, due to it being damaged by accident and by it having to be manually extracted and retracted, I replaced the 14-42 mm lens with this 17 mm fixed lens.

The 17 mm lens has been a delight. If focuses quickly and correctly. It focuses closely, too, and it performs very well in low light. This lens produces very clear and superb resolution images. It automatically extends when you turn on the camera (which the 14-42 lens does not), and is immediately ready to take photos.

I have owned 2 copies, a silver for an EP1 and my current black one that I use on an EPL1. I find this lens discrete, compact, fairly bright, silent and sharp. it is sharp in the center where it should be. I do not use it for landscapes and do not care about distortion (which is corrected in jpegs) or very sharp edges. I uses this for quick shots, mainly wide open. it reminds me of using a 35f2.8 elmar on an M3 and if this is your style, this lens will not dissappoint. it tends to stay on my camera 90% of the time. I have sold my kit lens and use this along with the 45f1.8 (awesome lens btw). I am saving for the 9-18 to try my hand at some UWA stuff. in a nutshell, ignore the forum buzz and try one.
